What makes this problem especially confusing is that, at least in my case it needs a "Realtek High-Definition Audio" driver, because the actual hardware was made by Realtek Semiconductors, and is merely based on an Intel standard. I clicked on update drivers and was told there were none for this device. I then went to the control panel and under the sound menu it says that there are no audio devices installed. What happened? The sound was working fine one minute and now it does not even exist on my laptop.

I have tried the Intel Driver and Support Assistant, but it did not detect any needed drivers for Intel High Definition Audio or that is is even present on my laptop, which it is on device manager. And only Intel Display Audio was even acknowledged on the driver update assistant. What can I do know? This thread is locked. The procedures I used are: Go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel right click on your computer's name and click properties click the hardware tab, the malfunctioning device should be at the top of the list indicated by something like a yellow triangle in the bottom right corner of its icon click properties for the malfunctioning device in the individual device property window click change settings go to the driver tab and click update driver Click the second option browse my computer, then click let me pick under manufacturer select Realtek, then select Realtek High-Definition Audio and continue with driver installation This should reinstall the original Realtek High-Definition Audio driver.
